The Forum recognizes the importance of the Millennium Development Goals in the realization of social and economic development for indigenous peoples, and therefore calls upon United Nations agencies, funds and programmes to work in collaboration with indigenous peoples to achieve such objectives.

Responses

The Inter-Agency Support Group on Indigenous Issues has issued a statement and technical paper on how indigenous peoples need to be involved in the Millennium Development Goal process.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development has entered a Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues to undertake in-depth case studies of IFAD-financed projects in indigenous communities, by indigenous peoples. The findings of these case studies will be geared towards the UN system, and suggestions will be made on how indigenous peoples' perspectives on development can be integrated to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
