Recalling the inter-agency support group report on data disaggregation, the Permanent Forum calls for the implementation of the following recommendations:(a)The United Nations system should use and further refine existing indicators, such as the common country assessment indicators, Millennium Development Goal indicators, country progress reports, global monitoring instruments and human development indexes to measure the situation of indigenous and tribal peoples;(b)The national human development reports, produced through nationally owned, editorially independent processes, should systematically include case studies and should include disaggregated data on indigenous and tribal peoples.

The Permanent Forum recommends that indigenous peoples’ organizations, particularly those concerned with indigenous women and young people, participate fully in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes related to the Millennium Development Goals. This includes participation in the preparations for the summit on the Millennium Development Goals through national consultation processes and in decision-making on the proposed summit outcome.

In the discussion on reconciliation and intergenerational trauma, there was agreement that healing requires a return to culture and a relationship with the land. The Permanent Forum recommends that Governments support programmes led by indigenous peoples to address intergenerational trauma as a way of moving towards true reconciliation.

The Permanent Forum recommends that the General Assembly conduct a highlevel meeting in September 2027 to evaluate the implementation of the outcome document of the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples and to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, with the enhanced participation of Indigenous Peoples as a key deliverable of the event. The Forum advocates for the support of Indigenous Peoples’ preparatory efforts for that event by ensuring their full and effective participation and funding from Member States and the private sector.
