Paragraph #10Session #3 (2004)

Full Text

The Forum recognizes the instrumental role of the Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) and welcomes the identification of "indigenous women" as an emerging key issue, the creation of a task force on indigenous women and the inclusion of an item on indigenous women in its 2005 agenda. The Forum requests its secretariat to transmit to it the results of the 2005 session of IANWGE on indigenous women.

Responses

The Task Force on Indigenous Women was initiated on 11 June 2004 following a decision of the Inter-Agency Network on Women and Gender Equality (IANWGE) at its February 2004 session and recommendation of the Permanent Forum. The Task Force adopted its terms of reference on 13 September 2004 with the purpose to integrate and strengthen the gender mainstreaming as regards indigenous women's roles and special concerns of indigenous women as an emerging key issue in the work of the United Nations system. This work is in progress.
