States Members of the United Nations and indigenous peoples must continue their constructive dialogue under the auspices of the President of the General Assembly, within the framework of the relevant decisions of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the Human Rights Council. It is also important to continue to make use of and explore ways to improve the opportunities provided through the existing formats and modalities of the Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, the Human Rights Council and various entities of the United Nations system. In that regard, the Permanent Forum welcomes the adoption by the Assembly of resolution 75/168 and the continuation of the dialogue within the context of the Forum at its twenty-first session.

Responses

UNITAR: Seeks to raise funds each year for dedicated training to strengthen the capacities of indigenous peoples’ representatives to engage in dialogue and negotiation to build constructive relations and advance their priorities.

UNFPA: Coordination of 3-part 2022 dialogue series with RCs to strengthen their knowledge on the rights of indigenous peoples and the role of the UN in supporting the realization of these rights at the country level.

SCBD: Secretariat of the Convention, in daily contact with IIFB and stakeholders to identify opportunities for input, dialogue, and capacity building.

Secretariat, along with the IIFB, organized three global thematic dialogues for indigenous peoples and local communities on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework (2019-2021)
