Paragraph #112Session #3 (2004)

Full Text

The Forum intends to pursue the agenda of mainstreaming indigenous issues into the process of the Millennium Development Goals and applying the thematic approach to build up a three-year programme of work. The Forum intends moreover to focus on implementation and urges United Nations bodies, States and indigenous peoples to engage actively in the dialogue on these issues, sharing good practices and barriers to implementation.

Responses

The Government of Finland reports the following:
The recommendation to devise a three-year thematic agenda for the Forum is useful if the objective-setting succeeds in formulating concrete objectives and outlining initiatives on the basis of the current good practices.

PFII - Ms. Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, Member of the Permanent Forum, addressed the preparatory roundtable on Poverty and Eradication of Hunger on 16 May 2005 which will inform the agenda of the Economic and Social Council High Level Review of the Millennium Development Goals from 29 June - 1 July 2005.
The Secretariat of the Permanent Forum is also working with the UN Millennium Campaign Office to increase the participation of indigenous peoples in the process to reach the Millennium Development Goals.
