The Permanent Forum acknowledges the important work of the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean on its thirtieth anniversary. The Permanent Forum encourages Member States, United Nations entities and indigenous peoples to support strengthening the work of the Fund.
UNESCO
UNESCO has also launched in November 2022, an initiative aimed at implementing the UNESCO Policy on Engaging with Indigenous Peoples from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) UNESCO sites (Biosphere reserves and UNESCO global geoparks). One of the key objectives of this initiative, hosted jointly by UNESCO and FILAC, is to reach a shared vision to build a tool for participatory social, cultural and environmental mapping of indigenous peoples whose territories coincide with UNESCO designated sites in LAC, through a rights-based approach.
ILO
The ILO is implementing a programme to provide assistance related to Convention No. 169 focusing on support for indigenous women’s economic independence in Bolivia, which also involves collaboration with the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC).
ITU
In collaboration with the Fund for the Development of the Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean (FILAC) the ITU-D delivered in 2022 two editions of the training programme on Innovative communication tools to strengthen the capacities of indigenous communities with a focus on how to develop, manage, and operate a network.
