The Forum recommends that the Department of Peacekeeping Operations of the United Nations Secretariat establish a policy on indigenous peoples, in consultation with indigenous peoples

Responses

In its response to the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations stated that it did not envisage developing a policy on indigenous peoples at the current time, however the department welcomes suggestions for improving their procedures with respect to indigenous issues. It is suggested that the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues contact the Peacekeeping Best Practices Section of DPKO in advance of the next session of the Permanent Forum.
