Addressee: UN Women

Paragraph #23Session #11 (2012)

Full Text

The Forum recommends that the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women) and the bureau of the fifty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women include indigenous women as experts on violence against women in the interactive panels and guarantee the participation of indigenous women in the process of preparation for and during the fifty-seventh session of the Commission.

Responses

UN Women failed to invite indigenous women experts as panelists in the interactive panels. However, several indigenous women attended the works of CSW57, some of them supported by UN Women. In the agreed conclusions, CSW also adopted a paragraph on indigenous women, which reads: “27. The Commission reaffirms that indigenous women often suffer multiple forms of discrimination and poverty which increase their vulnerability to all forms of violence; and stresses the need to seriously address violence against indigenous women and girls.”(E/CN.6/2013/L.5)
