Paragraph #125Session #6 (2007)

Full Text

The Permanent Forum welcomes the Regional Initiative on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and Development of UNDP and, in particular, the pilot projects on gathering disaggregated data in the Philippines and Nepal. The Permanent Forum also recommends that the Regional Indigenous Peoples’ Programme continue this work in other countries.

Responses

UNDP Regional Initiative on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights and
Development in Asia and the Pacific piloted in 2005 and 2006 two data-disaggregation projects. A pilot project, implemented by the Tebtebba Foundation, aimed at developing a methodology to generate baseline data and addressed the lack of accurate information gathering vis-à-vis indigenous peoples. Working in cooperation with the National Statistics Office of the Philippines, the project has developed new tools for survey and census collection, including indicators. The results are being presented as best practice and shared with other countries in the region.
