The Permanent Forum acknowledges the equity policy of UNICEF and pays particular attention to vulnerable indigenous children and youth in terms of food security, shelter, health and education. UNICEF, in developing its indigenous peoples policy, should consider the standards set out in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in relation to indigenous children and youth.

Responses

UNICEF reported that it continues to be active at the country level, supporting and advocating for various programmes specifically designed to advance the rights of indigenous peoples, ranging from bilingual and intercultural education, culturally sensitive health services, to birth registration and the fight against violence, abuse and exploitation.UNICEF’s approach is inspired, among othes,by ILO Convention 169 and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN2007).
