The active participation of indigenous peoples and indigenous organizations should be ensured when matters affecting their rights are discussed by the Human Rights Council and any subsidiary bodies or processes that it decides to establish.

Responses

OHCHR reports: “It will not be possible to address some of the recommendations (paras. 67, 72 and 79) before the mandate review, which, in accordance with General Assembly resolution 60/251 establishing the Human Rights Council, will take place during the Council’s first year of operation. The Human Rights Council will consider those issues during the first half of 2007. Additional information will be submitted to the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at its seventh session.”
