The Permanent Forum calls upon all States to work with indigenous peoples to develop and implement right-to-health indicators, to utilize the findings in the report of the Special Rapporteur on the right to health and to set benchmarks and timelines to ensure that indigenous peoples’ right to health is progressively realized, as required by the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and in the Millennium Development Goals.
Government of Spain is cooperating with the Andean Commission on Intercultural Health in order to carry out a project on the right to health of indigenous peoples in voluntary isolation and in initial contact of the Amazon and Gran Chaco. In addition, AECID has contributed 205,000 euros to the Andean Regional Health Agency (ORAS) in support of the intercultural health project which covers Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Chile and Colombia. The aim is to strengthen the actions that have been taken within the framework of national health plans in order to promote the exercise of the rights of indigenous peoples, increase the availability of services that offer an intercultural approach and improve the health of the indigenous population of ORAS member countries.
